AI Mixing vs Human Mixing: Where Each One Wins
Honest answer: AI does the technical 80% now, humans own taste, emotion and album coherence. The interesting part is the hybrid — and how our API hands the controls to a human.
What AI is genuinely good at
Gain staging and level balance, corrective EQ, masking avoidance, loudness compliance, and — the real superpower — batch consistency across hundreds of tracks. Research on automated mixing (e.g. AES 1501 workflows) supports exactly this class of technical work.
What humans still own
Taste. Emotion. Album-level coherence — track 4 should feel like it follows track 3. Communication with the artist, and the judgment calls that no objective metric captures. Any tool that claims to replace that is selling something.
The hybrid workflow that actually works
AI first draft → human engineer takes over. The difference with our API: every mix returns a settings JSON — gain, pan, EQ carve points, masking decisions — that an engineer can open, tweak and re-apply in their own session. AI hands over the steering wheel, not a finished car.
Hear it yourself
We are publishing A/B samples of the same stems mixed by AI and by a human engineer — coming soon with licensed source material. The SERP is full of opinion pieces; we would rather give you audio.
